Spinal Cord Injury

How it’s caused

Spinal cord injury can occur as a result of trauma, malignancy or other clinical syndromes. It can result in disruption of motor and sensory pathways between the brain and the rest of the body. Depending on the level of the spinal cord and the degree of damage, a number of symptoms can occur, including:

  • Muscle spasm (spasticity)
  • Altered sensation
  • Muscle weakness
  • Difficulties with mobility and everyday activities
  • Pain
  • Bladder and bowel problems
  • Loss of sexual function
